Hello! I would like to take this opportunity to share with you a bit about my background, interests and my philosophy as a teacher. My name is Tamara Gottschall and I am a kindergarten teacher at Ashkar Elementary. I graduated from Lock Haven University with a B.S. in Early Childhood
Education and I have a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of California of Pennsylvania. I have taught for over eighteen years but have had the pleasure of working in the East Lycoming School District for the past eleven years. My experience in the district has been with primary students, first at Renn with Pre-K and for the past eight years at Ashkar Elementary with kindergarten. I enjoy participating in school activities, such as, Spring Fling, Walk-a-thon and Family Fun Nights. I’m married to my wonderful husband; Kirk and the proud parent of a handsome son named Kyler. I also have two spoiled cats, a dog and a rabbit. My cats are named Oreo and Scooter. My dog, which we just got this summer, is named Gunner. He is a Beagle/Border Collie/German Shepherd mix. He is very playful and spoiled. My pet rabbit is named Rascal. Rascal, is our classroom pet. Rascal loves the children and the attention they give him. My hobbies are spending time with my son, family and friends, reading, campfires and any outdoor activities.

I consider myself extremely lucky to have a career I absolutely love and am so passionate about! I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. Children have a way of lighting up a room with imagination and curiosity, making my days brighter. Children are so precious and the happiness they bring to my life every day is very special to me. The joy of seeing a child smile from ear to ear with pride when they finally understand something or learn to do something is so rewarding – who could ask for a better career. In fact, I am learning more each year that teaching is not a job – it’s a privilege! How blessed I am to spend my days doing something that I believe in. I have a heart for education, and truly enjoy the challenges and the newness of each day. My personal goal is to help children realize their unique qualities and to develop these qualities in a fun interactive developmentally appropriate way. I look forward to this new 2016 - 2017 school year and in taking many adventures in learning with your child!
